Foxhound™

Foxhound Portable Narcotics Analyzer | Fast, simple narcotics testing for corrections facilities.

The Foxhound IMS™ Portable Narcotics Analyzer quickly identifies illicit drugs, with minimal officer contact, using enhanced ion mobility spectrometry (IMS). It can detect low-concentration drugs, from unseen trace amounts to visible particles, to enable versatile operations and protect correction officers and mailroom staff.

Purpose-built for Correction Facilities

Foxhound is purpose-built to give correction officers and mailroom staff fast, defensible answers about the presence of targeted narcotic substances.

Our proprietary maintenance regenerative dryer reduces the cost of ownership.

The Foxhound is a compact, portable radiation-free chemical detector based on IMS (ion mobility spectrometry) technology. With IMS, neutral narcotic molecules are ionized from a swab or a particle sample, and their unique travel time (based on their size) are detected to determine their presumptive identities.

IMS systems have been widely used to detect drugs, explosives, and chemicals. Approximately 50,000 systems are currently deployed around the world, making millions of scans each day.

With field-ready features, including simple red/green detection alarms, multi-sampling capabilities, intuitive UI, and non-radioactive materials, Foxhound is safe and easy-to-use in a variety of settings, and does not require licensing for the end-user.

Unlike traditional desktop lab equipment that stays fixed in one room, correction facilities can utilize the Foxhound to support mailroom screening, intake, cell searches, or visitation checks.

Frequently Asked Questions

info icon
Can it catch drugs that are not visible to the naked eye?

Yes. Its multi-sampling mode covers both non-visible trace residue (e.g., on an envelope, a piece of mail, or a surface someone touched) and visible particles. This matters especially for mailrooms, where drugs are increasingly smuggled in as trace residue soaked into paper, stamps, or child’s drawings rather than as obvious powder.

info icon
Is it safe for staff to operate?

Foxhound requires minimal contact with the sample, which reduces officer and mailroom staff exposure to unknown substances — including novel synthetic opioids where even small amounts can be dangerous. It also contains no radioactive source or materials, unlike some older detection technologies.

info icon
How fast is a single test?

Samples are analyzed in seconds, with rapid clear-down between tests — a real advantage in a mailroom processing high volumes of incoming mail daily, or in a facility doing routine intake screening.

info icon
Is it portable enough to move between the mailroom and jail cell?

Yes. It is compact and rugged for carrying between locations, unlike traditional desktop lab equipment that stays fixed in one room. That means the same unit can support mailroom screening, intake, cell searches, or visitation checks.

What is the ongoing cost of ownership like?

Foxhound uses a proprietary regenerative dryer in its maintenance process, which is designed to reduce consumable costs over time compared to devices that need frequent consumable replacement.
